Police warn public of rumours shared on social media

AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) on Monday cautioned against online messages that spread rumours and false news.

The cybercrime combating unit said such hoaxes warn people against fraudsters who place brochures on cars’ windshield to lure motorists to step out so that they could rob them.

Other items warn of people placing children in the middle of the street to distract motorists, and then assault and rob them.

All these false messages have been shared on social media in the name of the PSD but the department underlined that serious warnings are always issued through official channels and media outlets.

It urged the public to not listen to these rumours and to stop spreading them.
