AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Tuesday began questioning a man who reportedly shot and killed another man over old disputes in Irbid a day earlier, senior official sources said.

The victim’s body was found dumped in a cave in the Bani Kinanah area, allegedly by the suspect, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“Police received information that a man killed another person following a dispute and dumped his body, so we formed a special task force to follow up on the murder,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

Investigators were informed that the suspect then left to an unknown destination, the police official added.

“The special task force was able to locate the suspect and arrested him without any major incident,” Sartawi stated.

The police official added that initial questioning of the suspect indicated that he lured the victim, along with two other men, to an apartment “where he held them hostage for a while”.

“The suspect then opened fire at the three men, fatally injuring one of them,” Sartawi added.

The police official added that “one of the three died instantly, while the two other men were listed in fair condition”.

Investigators seized a weapon on the defendant after searching him, Sartawi stated.

The weapon, which was “allegedly used in the murder was sent to the Crime Lab for a ballistic match”, the senior judicial source said.

“The Criminal Court prosecutor is currently questioning the suspect and the two surviving victims,” a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

The prosecution office will also summon relatives of both the victims and the suspect to learn more about the shooting, according to the senior judicial source.

The suspect was ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation, the senior judicial source added.
