Police officer ‘pitches in’ to pay motorist’s car licensing fees

AMMAN – A motorist from Amman on Monday called a radio show to thank a police officer for his “surprising” gesture.

The man told Amen FM, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) radio station, that while he was at an Amman centre of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Department to renew his car licence, he ran short of money to pay all the required fees to complete the transaction.

He was then surprised when a police officer offered — and paid — the remaining amount of money to help him finish the licensing procedures.

The motorist named the officer as Captain Ahmad Abu Al Ghanam.

“The officer’s gesture surprised me,” the man said, adding that he called the programme to say how grateful he was.

A few minutes later, PSD Director Maj. Gen. Atef Saudi called the radio show to express his appreciation of Abu Al Ghanam.

Saudi highlighted the importance of cooperation between police officers and the public.
