AMMAN — Police on Sunday night arrested a man during an attempted home burglary in the capital’s Tabarbour neighbourhood, a Public Security Department (PSD) official said Monday.

Residents of the apartment called the PSD and reported the burglary attempt, PSD Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times over the phone.

A patrol unit of two Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel in the area headed to the location and chased the suspected burglar on foot until they caught him, Sartawi said.

No gunshots were fired in the incident, he added, dismissing as baseless news reports that the patrol members were shot during the chase.

“Both police officers resumed work as usual on Monday morning, and no injuries were reported in this case,” Sartawi stressed, adding that the suspect is currently being questioned.

In another case, the PSD media centre said security personnel have arrested a suspect and his accomplice on charges of robbing factories and shops in Amman’s Sahab area.

Some factory and shop owners complained to the Amman CID that their property was stolen at night, reporting broken locks and doors, according to a PSD statement.

A specialised team collected samples and information from the crime scenes, which led to identifying and apprehending the suspect who confessed to committing 18 thefts in cooperation with an accomplice who was also arrested.

CID personnel seized some of the stolen items found in possession of the suspects and showed them to the business owners who recognised their goods, the PSD said.
