AMMAN — Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a man who reportedly stabbed and murdered his married sister in an eastern Amman suburb a day earlier.

The victim was reportedly stabbed, allegedly by her brother, while at her family’s home on Monday, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

The suspect reportedly turned himself in to a nearby police station shortly after the murder was committed, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

“The suspect confessed to murdering his sister over personal disputes,” the police official stated.

An autopsy was performed on the victim by a forensic team headed by the director of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine Majed Shamaileh, and included Azzam Karaki and Rula Afaneh, a senior medical source said.

“The victim received over 20 stab wounds to her body that were mostly concentrated on her chest and stomach,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The forensic team also sent blood and tissue samples that were taken from the victim to the crime lab for further analysis, according to the senior medical source.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered the suspect to be detained for 14 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigations, according to a statement from the Public Security Department.
