AMMAN — A polar front bringing cold weather and heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder are expected to impact the Kingdom on Wednesday as snowfall is expected in areas 1,000 metres above sea level and higher, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Tuesday.
Temperatures in Amman will be 5°C during the day, dropping to -2°C at night. Mercury levels in Aqaba will reach a high of 18°C during the day, dropping to a low of 8°C at night on Wednesday, according to the JMD website.
Cold weather is expected to continue until Thursday, with a slight chance for showers in the western region, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing the JMD.
Meanwhile, the Public Works Ministry on Tuesday announced the activation of maximum alert status as of Wednesday morning in conjunction with the expected weather conditions in the Kingdom.
The ministry also announced that its 98 field teams dispatched across the Kingdom will be ready to anticipate the weather conditions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
It also called on the public to exercise caution, specifically staying away from flood-prone areas, and driving carefully, especially in the Badia areas due to the possibility of low visibility resulting from fog formation and snowfall.
The ministry also urged the public not to hesitate to report any emergencies through contacting the main operations room at the ministry on 065850111 and through WhatsApp on 0780377223 for all governorates.
