AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Tuesday attended an iftar held by the Palestinian Affairs Department, service committees and advisory bodies in the Kingdom's camps, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the iftar, which was attended by a number of ministers and officials, Khasawneh highlighted the Palestinian causeas a central issue, adding that it will remain as such until the two-state solution is materialised, where an independent and sovereign Palestinian state would be established, on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Khasawneh also stressed that the historical Hashemite Custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem is an honour, responsibility and duty that His Majesty King Abdullah undertakes daily.
He emphasised that sovereignty over East Jerusalem belongs to Palestinians and the guardianship over it is historically Hashemite, urging all people, regardless of their ranks, to support His Majesty in his defence of the Palestinian cause.
Greeting Jordanians and Palestinians in the last 10 days of Ramadan and the approaching Eid Al Fitr, he also greeted Christians on celebrating Easter, praising the role played by Christians in Palestine and Jerusalem in preserving the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, including Al Aqsa Mosque.
Khasawneh described Jordan as a “fortress” which will continue to defend Palestine, Jerusalem and its holy sites despite all obstacles.
