AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Sunday met Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) Ali Mohsen Al Alaq and his accompanying delegation.

Khasawneh expressed his condolences to Iraq over the victims of the recent fire at a wedding hall in Nineveh Province and wished the injured a speedy recovery, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Khasawneh stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic and banking sectors. He praised the high level of cooperation and relations between the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and its Iraqi counterpart, as well as the banking systems in both countries.

These relations are characterised by their quality, integration and flexibility and are sustained by the highest standards of governance, serving their common interests, Khasawneh said.

The prime minister talked about his visit to Iraq two months ago and his meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani and other senior Iraqi officials.

During that visit, the two parties agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in multiple fields and also through the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq.

For his part, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq Alaq thanked Jordan for its support and solidarity with Iraq following the recent fire incident.

Alaq also highlighted the "distinguished" relationship between the CBI and its Jordanian counterpart.

Alaq said that the CBI seeks to benefit from Jordanian expertise and capabilities, whether within the banking sector or through cooperation with the CBJ.
