PM issues Defence Order No. 27 targeting modes of transport

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Thursday issued Defence Order No. 27 of 2021.

Following are excerpts from the text of Defence Order No.27:

“Based on the provisions of Article (3) of Defence Law No. 13 of 1992, to ensure abidance by preventive measures stipulated in anti-COVID-19 related defence orders, I decide to issue the following Defence Order:

Firstly, owners and/or drivers of transport conveyances must adhere to safety and preventive measures aimed at containing the outbreak of the coronavirus, including: they are required to:

1.Ensure that passengers abide by wearing face masks and comply with physical distancing.

2.Running their vehicles with half capacity.

Secondly,

1.Any driver of a mode of transport who violates the provisions of the first clause of this order will face a fine of no less than JD50 and no more than JD100, while repeat violations bring imprisonment for a period of no more than six months.

2.Owner of any mode of transport in which violations of the first clause is detected shall face a fine of no less than JD100 and no more than JD500.

Thirdly, the provisions of Defence Order No .27 are effective as of Saturday, March 13, 2021, until Wednesday, March 13, 2021.

Fourthly, the prime minister is entitled to extend the valid period of this defence order or amend any of its provisions in accordance with the epidemiological situation, via circulars he issues for this purpose.
