PM calls for well-defined roadmap for development

AMMAN — The government, civil society institutions and the private sector should combine efforts to reach successful and sustainable development in Jordan, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said on Saturday.

In his address at the opening of the fourth Leadership Programme training course, which targets senior public sector officials, the premier underscored the importance of local development, a main topic of the training programme.

Organised by the Ministry of Public Sector Development, the periodic training seeks to facilitate expertise exchange and acquaint concerned parties with best practices in the field of public administration.

“It is high time that we have a well-defined roadmap… to lead us to what we aspire towards, in terms of results that directly reflect on citizens’ lives,” Ensour said, reiterating that arriving at development requires the highest level of coordination and integration among all involved institutions.

Highlighting the need for a strong and fair public administration and for combating corruption, he stressed the importance of both strength and justice to safeguard the country’s resources.

Several ministers and secretaries general of ministries attended the opening, where Public Sector Development Minister Khleef Al Khawaldeh emphasised the importance of arriving at local development at the governorate level.

“Comprehensive development is the government’s goal,” Khawaldeh said.

The programme seeks to help senior public sector employees form a unified understanding of local development, and the role of the public and private sectors and civil society institutions to guarantee local development, according to the minister.

It highlights the role that the ministries of interior, planning and municipal affairs should exercise, he added.

Implemented jointly by the ministry and USAID’s Fiscal Reform II Project, the programme aims at enhancing the leadership skills of senior government officials and strategic planning in human resource management.
