Planning minister meets EIB vice president

AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh on Monday  held a meeting with Gelsomina Vigliotti, vice president of the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Vigliotti participated in the pledges conference of donors for the National Water Carrier Project, which was the ministry held on Thursday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Shraideh praised the "distinguished" relations with the EIB over the years, since it is considered among the main development partners for Jordan, and seeks to provide loans and technical grants to support major projects in priority sectors, such as industry, mining, energy, education, water, transport and private sector development.

The bank also offered support through preparing several technical and economic profitability studies for projects in the water, sanitation, transport and renewable energy fields, in addition to the bank's contribution to securing COVID-19 vaccines. 

The minister also expressed gratitude and appreciation for the $250 million development loan for the project the bank announced during Thursday’s conference. 

Vigliotti expressed the bank's readiness to continue to provide expertise and finance in the priority fields for Jordan, mainly climate change, digitalisation, energy efficiency, water and sanitation, referring to the importance of cooperation with Jordan to enable it to overcome the challenges it faces and support its post-pandemic recovery.
