Palestinian-Jordanian ties more important than any other Israeli airport — Salem

AMMAN — The Palestinian Authority (PA) is against the use of Ramon Airport, Palestinian Transport Minister Asem Salem said on Tuesday, stressing that Palestine's stance towards the airport is "crystal clear" and "final".

During an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Salem said that the PA is against any Israeli airport and cannot accept working with the Israelis at the expense of the Kingdom, noting that "it's a firm national stance with all Arab countries, foremost of which is Jordan, Palestinian's eastern gate".

Stressing that Israel is indifferent to Palestinian lives and welfare, the minister urged Palestinians not to use the new airport, adding that Palestinian-Jordanian relations are more important than any Israeli airport.

The PA’s communication with Turkey has ruled out operating tourist flights to Turkey from the new airport, he noted.

The Palestinians have the right to have their own airport like other countries, he said, calling for the reopening of Qalandia Airport "to serve as a gateway” for Palestinians to cross to Queen Alia International Airport.

Israel's sole concern is to worsen Palestinian-Jordanian relations, but mutual understanding will hinder any Israeli attempts, he said, noting that Palestinian travel through the King Hussein Bridge is of mutual interest.

He expressed appreciation for the Kingdom's stances in support of the Palestinian cause.
