AMMAN — The Palestinian Cultural Centre kicked off its exhibition in Amman on Thursday, showcasing a wide range of cultural items.

Organised by the Palestinian Cultural Centre at the Jordan Construction Contractors Association in Abdoun, the exhibition aims at preserving Palestinian heritage and exposing it to younger generations, according to Seham Abu-Ghazaleh, the head of the heritage committee at the centre.

“It highlights the cultural identity of Palestine and we want to protect it and render it to the whole world. This is a heritage that dates back thousands of years,” she told The Jordan Times during the exhibition’s opening ceremony.

She noted that regional events added special significance to this year’s exhibition.

“The most important message is that we want to support our children in Gaza, and it is shameful to abandon them amidst a UNRWA crisis, which has been created to add more pressures on Palestinian children,” she added.

The exhibition showcases items such as handmade accessories and garments, frames, books about Palestine, traditional meals, posters and plates, in addition to traditional dances.

“We want to protect our heritage and adapt it to modern life and the new generation,” she added.

Raja Abu Zarour, a member who helped sell the items, echoed her colleague’s sentiment.

“It is very important to have these traditional sketches embedded in modern items, and to have Palestinian heritage spread,” she added.

According to organisers, around 500 women worked from home to contribute to the exhibition.
