Over 2,500 employees reinstated after losing jobs amid COVID-19 crisis

AMMAN — A total of 2,534 workers out of 4,146 who had lost their jobs during the COVID-19 crisis have resumed their work due to labour-related defence orders, the Ministry of Labour announced on Wednesday.

Labour Minister Nidal Bataineh, during a meeting of the Senate’s Labour and Social Development Committee, said that 1,422 workers were dismissed from their jobs lawfully, while 190 complaints are still under investigation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Defence Order No. 6 was issued to prohibit laying off workers with fixed-time contracts, while Defence Order No. 9 activated a fund for unemployment benefits through the Social Security Corporation.
