AMMAN — The Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD) on Monday announced the issuance of one million smart civil identification cards since June 2016, Al Rai Arabic daily reported on Tuesday. The department said it will continue to assist citizens to promptly obtain their smart IDs.
Interior Minister Ghaleb Zu’bi last month said the current civil identification card will become invalid as of June 15, until which the issuing of the smart IDs will be free of charge, Petra reported.
He added that smart ID cards will be required for completing transactions, and urged citizens to apply for them through CSPD branches around the Kingdom.
