AMMAN — Border Guards on Saturday night foiled an infiltration attempt by three Arab nationals from Syria into the Kingdom, Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) Spokesperson Col. Mamdoh Al-Ameri said Sunday.

One of the three was injured during the attempt, while Border Guards arrested the other two, Ameri added in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

JAF personnel administered first aid to the injured infiltrator and took him to hospital, Petra reported.

The other two were referred to the related institutions.

Earlier this month, Border Guards foiled an infiltration attempt by five persons who tried to cross into Jordan from Syria.

One infiltrator was killed and another injured, while the remaining three fled to the Syrian side.

A sixth person who was helping the infiltrators by sending them signals was also arrested.

Last Thursday, Ameri reaffirmed that JAF will continue its humanitarian role in receiving Syrian refugees through 45 crossing points along the 378-kilometre border with Syria.

But he stressed that each country has the right to take any measures to protect its territory, citizens and residents, noting that people who are suspected to have relations with terrorist organisations are subjected to strict security checks.

Specialised security forces follow similar procedures at airports and other crossing points, according to the spokesperson, who stressed that such a practice is a right for countries as stipulated in local and international laws.
