AMMAN — The Awqaf Ministry has decided to suspend imams who wish to run in the parliamentary elections from delivering Friday sermons, Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat said Tuesday.

The decision was based on reports from the Independent Election Commission on some imams who wish to run in the September 20 elections, Arabiyat told the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The decision is meant to ensure neutrality among all candidates in the Kingdom’s 23 constituencies, the minister highlighted, stressing that imams will resume delivering Friday sermons immediately after the elections.
