AMMAN — Agriculture Ministry Spokesperson Lawrence Majali on Monday affirmed that there has not been a decrease in the amount of vegetable and fruit exports, and that current exports remain within normal rates, Al Mamlaka TV reported. Majali attributed price declines of some vegetables and fruits to a surplus in some traditional crops. During 2022, the ministry achieved great success in decreasing surplus production, Majali stressed.
He added that the ministry signs export contracts with farmers through the Agricultural Marketing Company, adding that 1,000 agreements were signed between agricultural production houses in the Jordan Valley and the Agricultural Marketing Company. The local market consumes 3,000 tonnes of vegetables and fruits per day, he said, adding that local production reaches 4,000 tonnes per day, a portion of which is exported. Regarding the entry of Palestinian olive oil into the Jordan market, Majali said that the quantity is quite limited and typically comes in the form of gifts, stressing that each family can obtain two tins of olive oil.
