No decision yet by transport sector committee, says ministry

AMMAN — The Ministry of Transport on Saturday said that the committee tasked with discussing the challenges of the public transport sector, especially container transport, is still working on improving features of the industry by setting appropriate mechanisms, addressing the existing imbalances and demands related to setting a fair rotating schedule, and the payment of carriers’ wages.

The ministry stressed that no decision has been taken by the committee so far, noting that any decision will be in the interest of all parties, according to a ministry statement reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra. The committee includes all representatives of the public and private transport sector, transport companies and individual operators, in addition to transport and clearance unions, the statement said.

Work is underway to come up with a final vision that would serve the sector's competitiveness and sustainability, preserve the rights of carriers, ensure the distribution of fair loads and stimulate private sector companies to invest in this industry. On the heels of the truckers' strike, a specialised committee was formed last month to address transport sector-related challenges.
