AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammad Al Najjar on Tuesday conducted an inspection tour to assess the progress on the work of several wells being drilled by the Water Authority in the western region of the King Abdullah Canal in the Jordan Valley area.
The purpose of these wells is to provide an additional four million cubic metres (mcm) of drinking water during the current summer season, according to a ministry statement.
The pumped quantities will be used for drinking purposes, facilitated by drilling of 12 new wells, the minister said, stressing that these efforts will improve water supply across the Kingdom and increase available water quantities.
Najjar emphasised the government's commitment to securing additional sources of drinking water.
The work on the first well, with a capacity of 100 cubic metres per hour, has already been completed, and efforts are underway to complete the remaining wells, he added.
During his tour, the minister instructed the rapid processing of all wells and their linkage to the King Abdullah Canal, to supply the Zai Water Station.
