New regulations add teeth to Audit Bureau laws — PM

AMMAN — The government has established new rules to address violations registered by the Audit Bureau, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said on Tuesday.

Chairing part of the first meeting of the team tasked with reviewing violations recorded by the bureau in 2019, Razzaz stressed that the work of the team will enhance transparency and credibility and shed light on the government's keenness to limit violations and waste of public money, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs Sami Daoud, head of the team tasked with following up on the violations, stressed that the team, earlier in the day, received 450 inquiries made by the bureau and “immediately” began addressing them. 

Daoud noted that the team has set the end of January as the deadline for finishing its review of all violations recorded in 2019. 

The minister pointed out that the team will address all inquiries in all ministries and public departments “proactively” in coordination with the bureau and the Lower House, including those against public companies and municipalities.  

He added that the government adopted such a mechanism after the “positive impact” of reviewing the violations mentioned in the 2017 and 2018 reports of the bureau, which contributed to reducing the number of violations in public institutions.
