AMMAN — Director General of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) Sofian Bataineh has said that Jordan is “fully” prepared to handle any energy supply disruptions, both in the short and long term.
Speaking to the Al Mamlaka TV, Bataineh emphasised that the “Kingdom's stockpile of fuel used for electricity generation is sufficient to last at least 20 days, even if natural gas supplies from Israel's Leviathan field, one of Jordan's primary energy sources, are completely halted.”
He noted that sustainable alternatives have already been activated following the temporary suspension of gas supplies, as reported by Israel’s ministry of energy. “In case of an emergency, Jordan is capable of increasing fuel reserves through various supply chains.”
Bataineh’s remarks come amid escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran. For a third consecutive day, the two countries have exchanged airstrikes and missile attacks.
Israel's military said early Sunday it had struck Iran's defence ministry headquarters, "nuclear weapons project" infrastructure sites and other targets, as the rival nations exchanged fire for a third day.
It also said that Iran had launched a new salvo of missiles on Saturday and urged citizens to head to shelters.
