NCHR says Israel commits 'systematic genocide' in Gaza, calls for ceasefire, civilian protection

AMMAN — The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) on Sunday urged collective Arab action in the fields of development and population.

In a statement marking the Arab Population and Development Day, the centre emphasised the need for a joint humanitarian approach to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring good health, well-being, education, clean water and decent work.

The occasion coincides with the Israeli occupation waging a war against Gaza, the statement said, adding that Israel continually commits war crimes and crimes against humanity, "notably systematic genocidal practices against the Palestinians in Gaza".

"Forced displacement, destruction of homes and hospitals, damage to schools and various institutions, and destruction of infrastructure, have been among the occupation forces' violations."

The NCHR also said that Israel has prevented the entry of aid, food, water, humanitarian and medical supplies and fuel to Gaza, and has also obstructed access to all basic needs of the families, children and other segments of society. "These actions are flagrant violations of all international agreements and treaties, as well as the principles of sustainable development."

The NCHR called on the international community to take the necessary measures to stop the aggression against Gaza.

The centre also called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, end of hostilities, and delivery of relief assistance and services to civilians in Gaza Strip.
