AMMAN — Political, partisan and professional associations as well as popular movements on Friday organised protests nationwide to voice rejection of the US peace plan known as the "Deal of the Century".
In Amman, participants in a sit-in organised near the US embassy expressed their rejection of the US plan and praised the Kingdom's stances supporting Palestinians and their right to establish an independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
They also expressed anger over US President Donald Trump's peace plan, saying that it is "fully biased to the Israeli occupation", and that Washington has "lost its neutral role as a mediator and supporter of the peace process in the region", the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
A similar sit-in was organised in Irbid after Friday prayer, during which protesters expressed their "full rejection" of Trump's plan and called on Arab, Muslim and peace-loving powers to reject the deal.
They also called on the international community to support Jordan's stances on the issue, which reject the deal and disallow its implementation regardless of resulting challenges and pressures, as well as to support the Hashemite custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Participants in a third march held in Zarqa's Russeifa District denounced the deal, praising His Majesty King Abdullah's rejection of the plan.
Protesters lifted banners highlighting the Arab identity of Jerusalem and stressed that Al Aqsa Mosque will "remain for Muslims alone", according to Petra.
They also chanted against the US position, which they expressed is biased towards the Israeli occupation at the expense of the Palestinian right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital according to international legitimacy resolutions.
