National exports decline by 4.3% in first four months of 2024 — DoS

AMMAN — The Kingdom's total exports during the first four months of 2024 reached about JD2.748 billion, down 4.3 per cent from JD2.872 billion recorded during the same period in 2023, according to foreign trade data released by the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Wednesday.

Monthly data issued by the DoS showed that the national exports during the January-April period amounted to about JD2.488 billion, down 7.2 per cent from JD2.682 billion recorded during the same period of last year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The data indicated that the Kingdom's imports recorded an increase of 0.1 per cent to JD5.818 billion from JD5.813 billion in the same period. 

The value of re-exports increased by 36.8 per cent to reach JD260 million, against JD190 million recorded in the same period of last year.

The trade deficit totalled JD3.070 billion, 4.4 per cent higher than the deficit of JD2.941 billion recorded in the same comparison period. The cover ratio of total exports to imports fell to 47 per cent against 49 per cent.

On a monthly level, total exports in April 2024 were valued at JD681 million, with national exports at JD615 million and re-exports at JD 66 million. Imports for the month totalled JD1.428 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of JD747 million.

The report highlighted that total exports in April 2024 increased by 4.3 per cent compared with the same month last year. National exports increased by 1.5 per cent, re-export by 40.4 per cent and imports by 9.9 per cent. As a result, the trade deficit increased by 15.6 per cent.

The cover ratio of total exports to imports was 48 per cent in April, down from 50 per cent in the same month last year.
