Mulki to present policy statement to House Wednesday

AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki will present his government’s policy statement to the Lower House on Wednesday, seeking lawmakers’ confidence, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh announced on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the House on Sunday embarked on a process to elect members of its 20 permanent committees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The chamber elected members of its legal and finance committees and agreed unanimously on members of the committees on youth and sports, energy and mineral resources, public freedoms and human rights, and rural areas and badia committees.

The Legal Committee comprises MPs Reem Abu Dalbouh (Mafraq, Suqour List), Zeid Shawabkeh (Madaba, Mostaqbal Madaba List), Yihya Saud (Amman's 2nd District, Forsan Al Quds List), Mifleh Khazaaleh (Mafraq, Watan List) and Mustafa Khasawneh (Irbid's 3rd District, Watania Demoqratia List).

The committee also includes MPs Mustafa Yaghi (Balqa, Al Karamah List), Abdul Munim Oudat (Irbid's 1st District, Al Adalah List), Ahmad Freihat (Ajloun, Jabal Ajloun List), Andre Hawari (Amman's 1st District, Al Musharaka wal Taghyeer List), Manal Dmour (Karak, Watan List) and Hussein Qaisi (Tafileh, Al Adalah List).

The Finance Committee comprises MPs Nassar Qaisi (Amman’s 5th District, Hazm List), Mutaz Abu Rumman (Balqa, Al Adalah List), Mohammad Baraiseh (Amman’s 1st District, Al Khair List), Ahmad Safadi (Amman’s 3rd District, Mostaqbal Amman List), Awad Zawaideh (Southern Badia, Al Wafaa List).

Deputies Khaled Bakkar (Irbid’s 4th District, Al Assad List), Hassan Saud (Tafileh, Jibal Al Tafileh List), Oqlah Zboun (Jerash, Al Asalah List), Riyadh Azzam (Irbid’s 1st District, Irbid List), Raed Khazaaleh (Mafraq, Al Mafraq Liljamee List), Kamal Zghoul (Ajloun, Al Amal List) were also elected as members of the committee. 

Each permanent committee should comprise a maximum of 11 members and a minimum of five, and if the number of candidates exceeds the maximum limit, members are chosen through elections.

The by-law of the Lower House does not allow one MP to be a member of more than two committees, and prohibits deputies from simultaneously serving as members of a permanent committee and the Chamber’s permanent office.
