AMMAN — Grand Mufti of Jordan Abdul Karim Khasawneh on Tuesday stressed the importance of controlling fatwas (religious edicts), which should only be issued by a specialised council.
Khasawneh made the remarks at a symposium titled “The iftaa department and its role in controlling fatwas in the Kingdom”.
He added that members of such specialised councils are appointed by the Cabinet after a recommendation from the grand mufti, and must be holders of a bachelor’s degree in Sharia (Islamic law) for at least 15 years.
