AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah received HRH Prince Ali at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) upon his return to the Kingdom on Sunday after taking part in the FIFA election.
The King commended Prince Ali's efforts and courageous stances during his election campaign for FIFA presidency, “which reflected a high sense of responsibility and keenness to elevate the Kingdom's status in international sports arena”, a Royal Court statement said.
The prince lost to incumbent Sepp Blatter, who is struggling with alleged corruption being investigated by the US law enforcement agencies.
His Majesty said that Prince Ali's visions, thoughts and efforts to improve the situation of global football will remain appreciated by all those who care about the advancement of the sport.
Prince Ali thanked the King, voicing appreciation for his interest in following the election process since its beginning. He also thanked the Jordanians and Arabs who supported him, and said that Jordan earned a good reputation and the world’s respect through the participation in the elections.
Their Royal Highnesses Princess Rym Ali, Prince Abdullah Bin Ali, Princess Jalila Bint Ali, and top officials from various sports associations and popular movements attended the reception.
