Mobile payment transactions reach 13,498 since start of year

AMMAN — The Jordan Mobile Payment platform (JoMoPay) registered 13,498 transactions worth JD258,000 in the first five months of 2017, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) announced on Tuesday.

In its first report on JoMoPay, CBJ said that the platform saw 8,181 transactions in 2016, with a total value of JD182,000, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported citing the CBJ report.

CBJ licensed five companies to deal with the platform, four of which have already launched their services. The bank also issued regulations organising the work of the platform and protecting financial consumers.

The report showed that CBJ linked JoMoPay with the e-FAWATEERcom system, which allows e-wallet owners to review and pay their bills online.

The banks connected to the platform are the Jordan Bank, the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance, Arab Bank, Cairo Amman Bank and the Jordan Commercial Bank.

The licensed companies that launched the service are Mahfazati, Zain Cash, Aya and Dinarak.

CBJ launched the JoMoPay in 2014, while initial operation of the licensed companies started in the second half of 2016.

A result of the ICT development in the recent years, the JoMoPay was launched to provide financial services to citizens and enhancing financial inclusion in the Kingdom, according to Petra.

Mobile penetration in Jordan exceeds 150 per cent of the population, Petra added.
