AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in collaboration with private sector companies and representatives, launched on Sunday the Jordanian national awareness campaign “For a Drop,” coinciding with World Water Day celebrations.

The Secretary-General of the Water Authority Jihad Mahamid said that the campaign aims to enhance household water use efficiency, promote rationalisation, and adjust citizens’ behaviour, emphasising the importance of such awareness campaigns to rationalise water consumption and preserve it, especially through partnership with the private sector.

He stressed the importance of enhancing water awareness and utilising water to build a secure future within the Water Authority’s strategy aimed at providing additional water quantities to citizens, commending the efforts of the Jordanian private sector in introducing the water reality and fulfilling its responsibilities through promoting a national culture aiming to maximise the utilisation of every drop of water.

On his part, Haider Murad, representing the private sector, emphasised that the prospects of cooperation between the private and government sectors in various fields, especially the water sector, will achieve a qualitative leap in finding creative solutions to the water scarcity problem.

He noted that a group of alliances of Jordanian private sector companies are in the process of establishing Jordanian industries for household appliances capable of producing quantities of water suitable for all domestic uses with affordable prices.

Assistant Secretary-General for Media Affairs at the Water Authority Omar Salama said that the campaign will not only focus on behavioural change but will also address the economic aspect related to what the state bears and what the citizen pays for water.

He pointed out that the use of modern water-saving household appliances will directly reflect on reducing the citizen’s bill and saving additional quantities to be used to supply citizens in other areas.

Salama called on all civil, official institutions, and citizens to actively participate and engage in contributing to this national campaign, which will include all regions of the Kingdom.
