AMMAN — Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Monem Odat on Tuesday stressed that young people are at the heart of Jordan’s political modernisation project, describing them as the driving force behind efforts to revitalise public life and inject it with new ideas and initiatives.
Speaking at the launch of a youth political empowerment programme for political party members titled “Rule of Law and Values of Active Citizenship”, Odat said the success of the modernisation process depends largely on the extent of youth engagement in political and partisan life and their ability to become active partners in shaping public policy and the Kingdom’s future.
The programme, organised by the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, targets young members of political parties and was attended by party secretaries-general and youth representatives, according to Al Mamlaka TV.
Odat said that Jordan’s political modernisation project, launched under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, represents a comprehensive national reform initiative aimed at expanding political participation, strengthening programme-based party work and increasing youth representation in decision-making positions.
He noted that political modernisation extends beyond legislative and institutional reforms, seeking instead to foster a political culture rooted in participation, responsibility and national commitment.
The project also aims to strengthen public confidence in political engagement and enable citizens to play a greater role in decision-making through democratic and partisan channels, he said.
The minister described active citizenship as a key pillar of the reform process, saying it is reflected through meaningful participation, a sense of responsibility, service to society and the state, and the promotion of dialogue, pluralism and respect for differing views.
He added that promoting the rule of law and active citizenship remains among the central objectives of the political modernisation agenda, as both are essential to building a modern civil state capable of broadening political participation, enhancing national stability and advancing reform and development.
Odat stressed that Jordan is moving forward steadily with its modernisation efforts under the Hashemite leadership, relying on citizens’ awareness, trust in state institutions and the pivotal role of youth in safeguarding national achievements and shaping the country’s future.
The programme seeks to strengthen young people's understanding of active citizenship and the rule of law, encourage responsible political participation and enhance their engagement in partisan and public life through a series of discussions and interactive activities to be held across the Kingdom’s governorates.
