AMMAN — A Jordanian high ministerial delegation on Thursday held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zaidi in Baghdad on ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation across various economic and investment sectors.
The delegation, headed by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, included Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin and Minister of Investment Tariq Abu Ghazaleh.
The talks focused on a range of areas of mutual interest, most notably the Basra–Aqaba oil pipeline project, cooperation in energy and electricity, facilitating trade and commercial exchange, and strengthening partnerships between the private sectors and business communities in both countries, according to Al Mamlaka TV.
Both sides stressed the depth of historical and fraternal relations between Jordan and Iraq, reaffirming their commitment to advancing cooperation in a way that serves shared interests.
They also underscored the importance of accelerating joint projects and deepening economic and investment ties amid regional challenges to support stability and development.
Zaidi said that Jordan represents a key strategic depth for Iraq, expressing Baghdad’s keenness to further expand bilateral relations and increase trade and investment flows across various sectors.
He added that Iraq is committed to advancing cooperation with Jordan in line with its economic reform agenda and efforts to improve the investment climate.
Qudah reiterated Jordan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Iraq, praising Iraq’s progress in economic reform, investment environment improvements and anti-corruption efforts, which he said help reinforce bilateral partnership.
He also conveyed an official invitation from Prime Minister Jafar Hassan to his Iraqi counterpart to visit Jordan.
In a separate meeting, Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin held talks in Baghdad with his Iraqi counterpart Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi on enhancing cooperation in the transport sector.
The two ministers stressed the importance of maintaining direct coordination between relevant authorities in both countries and working to remove obstacles hindering the transport sector, in order to facilitate trade flows and strengthen regional connectivity, particularly through the Development Road project.
They also discussed cooperation in land, maritime and rail transport, as well as exchanging expertise in maritime training and logistics.
Al-Saadawi highlighted Iraq’s strategic role as a regional transit hub, noting ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and expand international transport linkages.
The meeting also addressed ways to facilitate the movement of goods and passengers and strengthen logistical integration between Jordan and Iraq.
