AMMAN — Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Namrouqa on Monday extended greetings to female diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on the occasion of International Day of Women in Diplomacy, marked annually on June 24.
Namrouqa commended the outstanding contributions of Jordanian female diplomats in representing the Kingdom, advancing its interests, and enhancing its presence and stature on the international stage, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
She highlighted their key roles in Jordanian embassies and missions abroad, as well as in international and UN organisations, noting that several women hold senior positions within the ministry.
Namrouqa underscored the important role played by female diplomats in serving citizens and delivering high-quality services both within the Kingdom and abroad. She praised their professionalism and competence, which she said reflect the strength of Jordanian diplomacy, established under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah.
Reflecting on the history of women's involvement in diplomacy, Namrouqa recalled that Loris Halalas became Jordan’s first female diplomat in 1969 and was the first woman to be granted the title of "Ambassador", a milestone that marked the beginning of women's empowerment in the diplomatic field.
She noted that the ministry currently counts 62 female diplomats serving both at headquarters and in missions abroad, including 9 ambassadors, 11 minister plenipotentiaries, 7 counsellors and 35 holding other diplomatic ranks.
