AMMAN — Water Minister Hazem Nasser on Saturday announced the discovery of a new mineral water resource with unique natural and therapeutic properties in Qastal, south of Amman.

The water temperature reaches 77°C, making it the hottest water in the Kingdom according to the ministry’s records, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister noted that the resource was found during the ministry’s implementation of its 2015-2016 plan to find new deep water sources in the area from Qastal to Hasa in the south of Jordan.

Nasser said the discovery would open the horizons to developing the area in the fields of tourism and investment, noting that the ministry seeks new water resources that would provide 0.5 billion cubic metres.

The water in Qastal was found 1,200 metres underground, with a salinity of 3,000mg and a variety of “unique” therapeutic minerals, the minister said.

It is a source of pure water without microbiological elements, he added.

Prime Minster Hani Mulki has directed the government to follow up on the issue and cooperate with other institutions and ministries to secure an investment and make it a competitive tourist destination.

The 77°C-water resource is also the hottest in the region and it is deemed an effective therapy for rheumatism and other disorders.
