AMMAN — Under the patronage of Muawiah Radaideh, represented by the adviser to the minister of environment, Jihad Sawaeer. Mercy Corps Jordan and Coins for Change have launched “Tahammul”, a cutting-edge digital platform designed to map climate change programmes across Jordan. This initiative signifies a major advancement in Jordan’s climate action efforts, emphasising the collective responsibility to address the pressing challenges of climate change, according to a statement for The Jordan Times.

“Tahammul” is more than just a tool; it embodies the collaborative spirit needed to tackle climate change. According to Darius Radcliffe, country director of Mercy Corps Jordan, “This platform will be an essential tool to foster collaboration, optimise resource allocation and ensure transparency in climate action efforts.” By providing a centralised platform for tracking and coordinating climate initiatives, “Tahammul” aims to enhance the efficiency and impact of climate projects throughout Jordan, the statement said.

The launch event at the W Hotel in Amman brought together many stakeholders, including government officials, representatives from international and non-governmental organisations, and the private sector. The event featured several key discussions on aspects of climate action in Jordan.

The first-panel discussion, “Securing Climate Funding for Jordan’s Resilience”, addressed the essential need for financial resources to support Jordan’s climate resilience efforts. Experts highlighted the importance of demonstrating the impact of existing projects, enhancing fund management capacities, and designing funding mechanisms that ensure sustainability and local ownership. The discussion underscored the potential of “Tahammul” to attract and direct future climate funding effectively.

The second panel discussion, “Building Jordan’s Climate Resilience: A Collaborative Approach”, focused on the joint efforts of the Jordanian government, civil society, the private sector, and international partners. Panelists emphasised the importance of policies addressing water scarcity, drought, and desertification, and discussed how technology and data-driven solutions can inform climate strategies. They also highlighted the need to protect vulnerable groups and promote behavioural changes to foster sustainability, according to the statement.

A key feature of the event was the demonstration of the “Tahammul” platform. Attendees explored its capabilities in mapping climate change programmes, facilitating collaboration, and promoting transparency in climate action efforts. This hands-on experience allowed stakeholders to appreciate the platform’s potential in driving effective and coordinated climate action.

The launch of “Tahammul” represents a significant milestone in Jordan’s climate resilience journey. By providing a valuable tool for stakeholders to collaborate, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure transparency, “Tahammul” will play a crucial role in facilitating impactful climate action as Jordan continues to face the challenges of climate change, the statement said.
