AMMAN — A memorial dedicated to martyr pilot Muath Kasasbeh in Ai, Karak Governorate, is nearing completion, with final works under way ahead of its official inauguration soon.
Arouba Shamaileh, assistant secretary-general of the ministry and director of Karak Culture Directorate, said that the project has entered its final phase and is being delivered to the highest artistic and engineering standards, according to a Ministry of Culture statement.
She said that the memorial reflects the distinguished national status of Kasasbeh and preserves his legacy of sacrifice and bravery in the hearts of Jordanians.
On February 3, 2015, the Daesh terrorist group released a video showing a group of its masked terrorists burning Kasasbeh alive in a cage. The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) issued a statement then saying the officer was killed on January 3, nine days after his F-16 crashed over Raqqa in northeast Syria.
Dozens of landmarks and facilities have been renamed by officials and governorate representatives to carry the name of Kasasbeh as way to honour his bravery.
In the village of Ai in Karak, the birthplace of the fallen pilot, streets and landmarks have been renamed “Muath Kasasbeh”.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, the monument features an F-16 fighter jet design crafted from basalt stone, along with engraved details and a commemorative base honouring the martyr’s name and national significance, according to the statement.
The memorial is expected to become a lasting national landmark celebrating Jordan’s heroes and reinforcing the values of loyalty, pride and belonging for future generations.
Kasasbeh remains a symbol of courage and national sacrifice, with his legacy continuing to hold a special place in Jordan’s collective memory.
