Medical lab technicians’ work ‘risky’ — SSC

By JT - Oct 02,2016 - Last updated at Oct 02,2016

AMMAN — The profession of medical lab technician has been classified as “risky” by the Social Security Cooperation (SSC), the corporation said on Sunday.

Medical lab technicians collect samples, operate inspection devices and conduct lab tests, in addition to destroying lab samples after completing tests, said SSC Media Director Musa Sbeihi in a statement.

The job has been classified as risky because workers are vulnerable to chemicals and poisonous gases that could cause allergic reactions and even cancer, in addition to other biological dangers, according to Sbeihi.

He urged all hospitals, medical centres and labs to provide the SSC with the names of employees who work as medical lab technicians and their wages, in addition to paying SSC subscription fees at 1 per cent higher than other jobs.
