AMMAN — Media accreditation for the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa, which will be held at the Dead Sea in Jordan between May 21 and 23, is now open for media representatives, according to a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times.

Journalists wishing to cover the event can submit accreditation requests online at weforummedia.org. The deadline for media accreditation is April 30.

Convening under the theme, “Creating a Regional Framework for Prosperity and Peace through Public-Private Cooperation”, the WEF meeting is expected to attract more than 800 government, business and civil society leaders from around 50 countries.

The meeting is scheduled to address “the shared and urgent imperative of driving economic and social advancement”, particularly for young people.

“The emphasis will be placed on translating emerging investment, infrastructure and energy partnerships among the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Levant and North Africa, into robust communities for regional growth and development,” the statement said.

The meeting will also hold “high-level dialogue” on the security and humanitarian imperatives, with a special focus on Jordan’s central role in the region.

The WEF meeting on the Middle East and North Africa is hosted in Jordan in partnership with the King Abdullah II Fund for Development. This year’s meeting will be the eighth Jordan has hosted.

WEF is an independent international organisation committed to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation.

The forum holds an annual summit in Davos, Switzerland, in addition to several regional meetings. It issues regular global indexes on competitiveness, infrastructure, markets performance and other areas.
