AMMAN — Under the patronage of Ziad Zoubi, President of the Jordan Medical Association, and in collaboration with Basar International Foundation, Pious Projects, and Khansa Hospital, the Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (Map Jordan) launched its third campaign to combat blindness on Saturday, according to a statement for The Jordan Times.
The campaign aims to perform 800 free cataract surgeries in Jordan as part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for eye patients in the Kingdom.
The event was attended by Ziad Zoubi, Adel Rashoud, Founder and Chairman of Basar International Foundation, Waddah Barghouthi, General Manager of Khansa Hospital, Mohammad Hammad, Director of Pious Projects Office in Jordan, Shereen Shaheen, Executive Director of MAP Jordan, and representatives from civil society organisations supporting this humanitarian event.
This campaign follows the significant success of the previous two campaigns in collaboration with Basar International Foundation. The first campaign, launched in January 2024, resulted in the screening of 3,600 patients and 399 cataract surgeries. The second campaign, held last week, included screening over 3,500 patients, selecting the most severe cataract cases for surgery, the statement said.
In his welcoming speech, Ziad Zoubi emphasised the critical importance of eye health, highlighting the urgent need for such precise surgeries to preserve vision.
Since its establishment in 1990, Map Jordan has aimed to provide primary healthcare services through health centres in various locations across Jordan. Map Jordan has treated more than 2 million patients to date, thanks to charitable donations and continued support from its partners.
Map Jordan expresses its deep gratitude to Basar International Foundation, Pious Projects, Khansa Hospital, and Amman Pharmaceutical Industries (API) for their generous donation of eye drops during the campaign, as well as to all who contributed to the success of these humanitarian efforts. Map Jordan reaffirms its commitment to continuing its work to provide the highest level of healthcare for eye patients in Jordan, according to the statement.
