AMMAN — Police on Tuesday said they arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and his brother injured in Jafer area in Maan Governorate, some 220km south of the capital, earlier in the day.
The two victims were reportedly shot by the suspect following a heated argument, Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one was declared dead on arrival and the second was listed in fair condition, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
“Our initial investigation indicates that the three had old feuds that were reignited in a heated argument and eventually the use of firearms,” Sartawi explained.
“We arrested the suspect and seized a weapon, and are currently investigating the incident,” he said.
The weapon was sent to the crime lab for a ballistic match, he added.
The suspect was ordered detained for 14 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre by the criminal court prosecutor pending further investigation, a judicial source said.
The prosecutor will summon the individuals involved in the brawl, witnesses and family members to learn more about the incident, the judicial source added.
