Amman — Lower House's Palestine Committee and Director of UNRWA in Jordan Olaf Becker discussed on Tuesday the Palestinian refugee agency's operations and fund challenges.
Head of the panel MP Firas Ajarmeh said that the Lower House will lead an international action on parliamentary level to mobilise support to UNRWA, and urge the governments of countries which suspend their funding to the agency to reconsider their decision, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He also said that cutting off funding to UNRWA will have "dangerous" consequences on the Palestinian refugees and the hosting countries, especially Jordan, which hosts around 2.4 million refugees.
Over a dozen countries, including major donors the United States, Germany, Britain and Sweden, have suspended their funding to the agency over accusations that 12 of its staff members were involved in the October 7 sudden attacks in Israel by Hamas.
