Lower House reduces its permanent committees to 15 down from 20

AMMAN — The Lower House on Sunday amended a provision in its by-law, reducing the number of the permanent committees to 15 down from 20.

The Education Committee will be merged with the Youth Committee, the Badia Committee will be merged with the Agriculture and Water Committee and the Public Services and Transportation Committee will be merged with the Tourism Committee. The integrity and fact-finding committees will be cancelled to have their duties transferred to the Legal Committee.

Also on Sunday, MPs passed the 2019 amendments to the agriculture, regular court formation, customs and vocational work laws.

The Chamber of Deputies referred the labour law which it received for the second time from the Senate to its Labour and Social Development Committee for further examination, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Senate has rejected MPs’ amendments to the draft law under which work-permit exemptions are to be granted for Gazans living in Jordan, recommending instead that such issue is to be regulated by a by-law issued by the Cabinet.

The House also approved the establishment of public parks and youth camps in forestland on the condition that no fixed facilities are built to preserve the trees as per its amendments to the Agriculture Law.

MPs also passed the amendments to the Regular Court Formation Law, expanding the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
