Local fertiliser company to start exporting to Australia

AMMAN — Nippon Jordan Fertiliser Company W.L.L. said Tuesday it obtained the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service certification, which opens the door for exporting to Australia, Amer Majali, the company’s chairman, told the Jordan Times in a statement Tuesday.

The company sent about 2,000 tonnes to Australia for testing before obtaining the licence.

Karim Halaseh, the firm’s director general, said the company will send 3,200 metric tonnes by container this month and 20,000 metric tonnes of its products before the end of the year.

The firm is owned by the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, which holds 70 per cent, the Arab Potash Company (20 per cent) and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation (10 per cent), according to its website.
