Local company signs JD4m deal to build fourth phase of Al Hassan Industrial Estate

AMMAN — The Jordan Industrial Estate Company (JIEC) on Tuesday signed an agreement with a local construction company to implement Al Hassan Industrial Estate’s fourth expansion project worth JD4 million.

The 200-dunum expansion includes 34 investment plots, an 18,000sq.m. industrial building and needed infrastructure, according to a JIEC statement sent to the Jordan Times.

During a signing ceremony, JIEC CEO Omar Jwaid said that the new expansion would help improve Al Hassan Industrial Estate, which accounts for nearly 80 per cent of Irbid’s exports, underlining that the project aims to create jobs both during and after the construction phase.

The previous expansion comprised of 11,500sq.m. in housing and 16 conventional factories. It was announced and implemented in 2013, with 25 investment plots and industrial buildings, Jwaid said.

Established in 1991, Al Hassan Industrial Estate is the first qualifying industrial zone that allows duty free and quota-free exports to the US, and the second established after the King Abdullah II Industrial Estate in Sahab, the statement added.

Al Hassan Industrial Estate, located close to the border with Syria, includes 151 industrial companies with investments worth JD275 million and exports totalling JD517 million. The estate generates approximately 28,000 jobs.
