AMMAN — In a multilateral summit held at the United Nations Headquarters, leaders from eight Arab states and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joined US President Donald Trump to address the escalating crisis in Gaza and discuss ways to achieve peace and stability in the region.
The meeting, convened on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Week, was co-hosted by President Trump and Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar.
Attendees at the summit included His Majesty King Abdullah, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal Madbouly, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud.
During the session, the leaders thanked President Trump for calling for this important meeting. They also highlighted the unbearable situation in the Gaza Strip, including the humanitarian catastrophe and high human toll, as well as its serious consequences for the region and impact on the Muslim world as a whole. They reiterated the common position rejecting forced displacement.
The leaders also emphasised the need to end the war and achieve an immediate ceasefire that would ensure the release of the hostages and allow the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid as the first step towards a just and lasting peace in the region.
Participants also reiterated their commitment to cooperate with President Trump, stressing the importance of his leadership to end the war and open horizons for a just and lasting peace.
They also emphasised the need to work out the details of a stabilisation plan, while ensuring stability in the West Bank and Jerusalem’s Holy Sites. They also supported Palestinian Authority reform efforts.
Moreover, participants also emphasised the need to ensure a comprehensive plan for reconstruction in Gaza, based on the Arab and OIC plan, as well as security arrangements, with international assistance supporting the Palestinian leadership, and expressed commitment to work together to ensure the success of plans and to rebuild the lives of Palestinians in Gaza.
Participants also emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum to ensure that this meeting is the beginning of a process on the right path to a future of peace and regional cooperation.
