AMMAN — A group of MPs on Wednesday called on Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to annul a court decision seeking the death penalty for the former president, Mohamed Morsi, describing the ruling as a recipe for violence.
The plea to Sisi came in the form of a written letter 50 lawmakers signed in which they raised concerns over the possibility of the emergence of a "bloodshed era" in Egypt if the court ruling against the deposed president and other Islamist leaders is implemented.
In May, an Egyptian court issued a ruling seeking death penalty against Morsi and 106 supporters of his Muslim Brotherhood in connection with a mass jail break in 2011.
In their letter, a copy of which was seen by The Jordan Times, MPs called on Egyptian authorities to benefit from the Jordanian experience and smooth manner the state has dealt with the opposition, a policy that has helped the Kingdom remain stable and secure.
