‘Labour Ministry to intensify checks on guest worker recruitment’

AMMAN — The Labour Ministry will take all the necessary measures to support the agricultural sector and protect farmworkers, Secretary General Farouq Hadidi said on Sunday.

Hadidi noted that the ministry had taken several decisions to regulate the local labour market, including allowing farmers to recruit guest workers in accordance with the Labour Law, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He added that the ministry has coordinated with the concerned authorities and reduced annual work permit fees from JD300 to JD60.

The ministry’s inspection teams will intensify their checks on facilities and institutions that recruit guest workers, he said. Meanwhile, a joint campaign will be carried out with the Public Security Department to stop guest workers assembling near roundabouts and public squares to wait for work, Hadidi said.
