Labour Ministry collects JD85m in guest worker permit fees

AMMAN — Labour Minister Nidal Katamine on Tuesday said the ministry is about to examine 5,000 job applications presented to the Civil Services Bureau and provide the applicants with training for employment purposes.

During a meeting held by the Lower House Finance Committee to discuss the 2015 state budget law, Labour Ministry Secretary General Hamadah Abu Nijmeh said the campaign to track illegal labourers has generated JD85 million in revenues from work permit fees compared with JD72 million in 2013, adding that 1,252 guest workers paid their dues and were not deported.

Meanwhile, Katamine, who is also minister of tourism, met on Tuesday with the head of the Lower House Reform bloc MP Mejhem Sqour and other members.

Discussions addressed the most important issues facing the tourism sector.
