AMMAN — Labour Minister Nidal Bataineh met with Qatari officials in Amman on Tuesday to discuss speeding up a Doha initiative to provide 10,000 jobs for Jordanians.
The two countries’ labour ministers announced the initiative in July 2018 at a joint press conference. In early August 2018, the Labour Ministry launched www.jqpee.jo to allow Jordanian candidates to apply for jobs in the Gulf country.
The Qatari delegation comprised representatives from the country’s ministry of administrative development, labour and social affairs, ministry of interior and the private sector.
During Tuesday’s meeting, Bataineh and the delegation discussed possible ways to further develop the ministry website and facilitate procedures for Jordanians seeking jobs in Qatar, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
In June, Qatar pledged to provide $500 million for investment projects to support the Kingdom’s infrastructure and development projects.
The assistance was announced during a meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah and Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Al Thani in Amman.
Labour Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Khatib said that a total of 650 jobseekers have found jobs in the educational sector through the website so far.
The first batch of Jordanians left the Kingdom on Monday and Tuesday, while the rest will be heading to Qatar later this month after finishing necessary procedures, he added.
Bataineh said that the discussions were part of follow-up efforts after the minister’s meeting with his Qatari counterpart Yousef Bin Mohammed Al Othman on the sidelines of the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva in early June.
