AMMAN — Director of the Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Department Khalil Abdallat said on Wednesday that His Majesty King Abdullah's vision to modernise the political, economic and public reforms has spurred the government’s effort to enhance the human rights system in the Kingdom.

Abdallat made the remarks during the inaugural session of a consultative meeting with several of civil society institutions from different governorates of the Kingdom. The meeting was organised by the We Participate for Civil Society Development Centre, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He also said that Jordan has finalised the fourth national report under the universal periodic review mechanism. This report is scheduled for discussion in the fourth quarter of January 2024 at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The director also stressed that the components of the fourth national report align with the government's aspirations to enhance the human rights system.

This includes maximising national achievements, addressing challenges, and fostering a genuine partnership between the government, national institutions, and civil society entities to advance human rights in Jordan, according to Petra.

Abdallat also commended the media and civil society institutions for their role in collaborating within the national and government frameworks to develop the human rights system in the Kingdom.
